Speaking Skills 2of 10

Speaking skills

2 of 10

When you’re assigned a class presentation, think twice before dismissing it as an unimportant part of your education. Employers look for speaking skills in job applicants, who may have to give presentations to clients or represent their organization in the field. It’s never too soon to practice good eye contact and other public speaking techniques.

http://www.newswiretoday.com/news/17334/

According to The Book of Lists, the fear of public speaking ranks number one in the minds of the majority people. Far above the fear of death and disease, comes the fear of standing in front of a crowd. Joel Wiener noted author and public speaker wants to help people overcome that fear.

“The biggest fear is public speaking, with 15 percent of American experiencing a dramatic fear of it,” said Dr. Michael Telch of the Laboratory for the Study of Anxiety Disorders (LSAD) in the Department of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. “People have had to turn down jobs, and certainly students have dropped classes because of it.”

Regardless of your occupation, your success depends a great deal upon your ability to communicate effectively! Whether you’re running a meeting, selling a product, making a presentation, motivating co-workers, or just communicating one-on-one with others, you’ll get far better results if you can speak persuasively, smoothly and intelligently.

Writing Skills 1 of 10

Writing skills

1of 10

Communication is at the top of the list of skills that employers look for. And communication in the workplace often means writing.

Health professionals keep patents charts, researchers depend on the money they collect by writing grant applications, software engineers write technical specification, and nearly every one writes e-mail to people inside and outside their organization. And before you even get the chance to interview for a job, you'll need to present yourself in cover letters and resumes.

So by taking writing serious and doing your best on every research paper, every lab report you write, every post you write on your blog site, and every writing activity you engage in, you’re preparing yourself for a good career.

the Power of Study Groups Part 2

The power of study groups

Part 2

The benefits of study groups

Group study offers other advantages in addition to gaining a deeper understanding of class material.  These include the opportunity to: reinforce note talking. If you are an AP Biology notes are unclear, you can ask a member of your study group to help you fill the gaps. Share talent. Each person brings different strengths, such as original skills, the ability to stick to a task capacity for memorization.

Cover more ground. Group members may be able to solve a calculus problem together than none would have solved alone. Benefit from support systems. Members often have common goals, such as good grades. Each person works affect the other members, which result in making members supportive of one another. Socialize. It’s more fun to study with others; the give-and-take makes it more interesting. And because it’s more fun, you spend more time studying.

Jenna Huff wins the extreme “Sportsmanship” award from the U.S. Olympic Committee.

In this story Jenna Huff is a high school student that runs in her cross country team and she was able to run for her team in the race to the state champion. As Jenna was running she said that she always kept an eye out for her opponent Deb. Jenna was always just a little behind Deb, there was on three miles and when it was the last mile Jenna was thinking of just sprinting the last mile so she could lead her team to the state nationals. When Jenna was running she was looking at her opponent deb and saw her fall in front of her in the last 100 yards and when she did Jenna was right there to help her get up from her fall. When she did Jenna walked Deb to the finish line and let her finish first because Jenna said that Deb was always going to be in front of her even without the hip fall.

Reflection: what Jenna did there was a really good act of "Good Sportsmanship". Jenna new that if she did not help Deb get up from the floor she would just be one sour looser and she would not feel god with herself. Jenna chose the Right

How to Take on College Studing part 1

How to take on college studying

Part 1

Develop good study habits.

In college, you’ll need to build on the study skills that you learned in high school. The demands of a college class are probably more rigorous than those you are used to.

Yu can succeed by knowing what to expect in college and how to handle it. Think of college as a full time job, in which you spend 40 hours a week on class, labs, study groups and doing homework.

Be organized and using your time well are essential. Learn more about time management, and use the guidelines below to develop your study skills.

Decide when to study

Work out about how many hours you need to study every day. Then make a schedule.

·        Figure out what blocks of time you have available through-out the day, in the evenings and on weekends.

·       Consider what time of day you are most alert – there are mornings people and night owls – and try to schedule you’re studying accordingly.

·        Think about whether you do better studying for a few hours at a time or sitting down for a marathon session.

10 Management Tips for Students Tips 5-10

10 Management Tips for Students

Tips 5-10

Tip 5. Review your notes every day.

Reviewing helps you reinforce what you’ve learn, so you need less time to study before a test.  You’ll also be ready if you get called on in class or have to take a pop quiz.

Tip 6. Get a good night sleep.

Your brain needs rest to perform at its peak. Lack of sleep makes the day feel longer and your tasks seem more difficult.

Tip 7. Communicate your schedule to others.

If phone calls and text messages are proving to be a distraction, tell your friends that you are only available during certain times of the day and not to expect a response at other times.

Tip 8. Become a taskmaster.

Give yourself a time budget and plan your activities accordingly. Figure out how much free time you have each week before you add any commitments.

Tip 9. Don’t waste time agonizing.

Instead of agonizing and procrastinating, just do it. Wasting an entire evenings worrying about something that you’re supposed to be doing is not productive, and can increase your stress.

Tip 10. Determine your priorities.

You can’t do everything at once. Establish the importance of each item. Then set realistic goals that are attainable.

Choose the Right!!!!

7 Habits of Highly Successful Tens Habit 7 Part 1

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens

Habit 7 Part 1

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw

Teens should never get too busy living to take time to renew themselves. When teens “sharpen the saw” they are keeping their personal self sharp so that they can better deal with life. It means regularly renewing and strengthening the four keys dimension of life-body, mind, and soul.

1.   Body. Eat wholesome foods, fruit, veggies, legumes avoid illegal drugs, smoking, alcohol, tobacco products, tattooing. Exercise regularly and effectively. Getting plenty of rest at night. Get to bed early at night and get up early each morning. “early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”

2.   Mind. Think positively. Read. Study. Think. Analyze. Seek to read a good book each month. Then each week. Ask intelligent questions. Observe. Develop your mind through positive “self-talk.”

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens Habit 4

7 habits of Highly Successful Teens

Habit 4

4. Think win-win

Teens can learn to foster the belief that it is possible to create an atmosphere of win-win in every relationship. This habit encourage the idea that in any given discussion or situation both parties can arrive at a mutually beneficial solution. Your teen will learn to celebrate the accomplishment of others instead of being threatened by them. Win-Win is a belief that everyone can win. It’s both nice and thought all at once. I won’t step on you, but I won’t be your doormat either. You care about other people and you want them to succeed. But you also care about yourself, and you want to succeed as well. Win-Win is abundant. It is the belief that there’s plenty of success to go around. It’s not either you or me. It’s both of us. It’s not a matter of who gets the biggest piece of the pie. Theirs more than enough food for everyone. It’s an all you can eat buffet. Win-win  always creates more. Perhaps the most surprising benefits of thinking Win-Win is good feelings it brings on. The true test to whether you are thinking Win-Win or one of the alternitivesis how you feel. Win-lose and Loss-Win thinking will cloud your judgment and feel you with negative feeling.

Win-Win will fill your heart with happy and serene thought. It will give you confidence. Even fill you with light. Think Win-Win or no deal.

“The only difference between those who have failed and those who have succeeded lies in the difference of their habits. Good habits are the key to success.
